Backyard Host

What you get:

  • Two to four hives of honey bees on your property
  • Pollination for your garden (and neighborhood)
  • 12 five-ounce jars of honey per hive, delivered in time for the holidays. We separate harvests by location, and barring unusual hive issues will supply you with honey from your yard. These are a $108 retail value per hive, and are great for gift giving.
  • Informal educational opportunity from an experienced beekeeper, and the opportunity to observe honey bees right in your own yard.
  • Invitations to you (+1) to three open-houses at our own hives and shop, where you can gain hands-on experience inspecting hives, building woodenware, extracting or bottling honey. ($150 value).
  • Invitation to our annual, members-only harvest party at the end of the year.
  • Knowledge that you are supporting “community through the hive,” with our free classes to disadvantaged youth and other community education programming.

2018 rates:

  • For two hives: $525 (per year). This helps cover the costs (accounting for annual depletion) of the bees and the wooden hives; plus tools, time, and insurance. A portion also covers related costs for hives in community spaces and free classes for youth. Note: two hives is the minimum hosting set-up, $525 covers both hives.
  • For three or four hives: please inquire. Note: four hives is the maximum for Seattle City ordinance.
  • Payments in full upon execution of the agreement receive a 5% discount. We also accept quarterly payments.

Community Hive Sponsor

What you get:

  • Personal hive tour and inspection at one of our community apiaries.
  • Four pounds of honey, at the end of the summer. We can bottle this either in four 1# jars, or 12 smaller jars, perfect for gift giving.
  • Knowledge that you’re helping support our community education program, particularly among youth. Your contribution helps cover the operating fees of the community hives and nothing more: i.e. there’s no profit to these hives other than charitable and educational outcomes.

2018 rates:

  • $525 (per year)
